High Blood Pressure Pill Noted Then Due to High Cancer Risk? the manufacturer, Lupin Pharmaceuticals, has recalled four lots of the generic quinapril pills for high blood pressure due to excessively high levels of a potentially cancer-causing contaminant.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) following recent testing.

There is no immediate hazard to individuals using this drug, even if long-term consumption of this probable carcinogen may raise cancer risk.

The quinapril products in question include, in accordance with a statement from the FDA released on December 21:

  • 20 mg tablets, lot number G102929, expiration date 04/2023
  • 40 mg tablets, lot number G100533, expiration date 12/2022
  • 40 mg tablets, lot number G100534, expiration date 12/2022
  • 40 mg tablets, lot number G203071, expiration date 03/2024

Between March 15, 2021, and September 1, 2022, the tablets were disseminated across the country via wholesalers, pharmacy chains, mail-order pharmacies, and supermarkets in 90-count bottles.

Although Lupin stopped making these quinapril pills in September, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers are asked to stop selling the recalled batches right now since they may still have some on hand.

For instance, Pfizer recalled five batches of Accupril (quinapril HCl) pills in April 2022. Aurobindo Pharma USA recalled two sets of tablets containing quinapril and hydrochlorothiazide in October.
